By joining the OUTRUN server, you agree to follow these rules.

1. The Objective
  • Your objective is to reach and activate the End Portal and escape through the End.
  • A run begins when you are officially placed into the active game.
  • A run ends when you successfully escape, die, leave, timeout, or otherwise become unable to continue.
  • Your run time is measured from the official start of your run.
  • The fastest successful runs are recorded on the seasonal leaderboard on our website, server lobby and online stream panel.
  • Dying ends your run permanently. There are no respawns during a run.
  • You are responsible for your own survival. The Overseer is intentionally overpowered in-game; this is part of the challenge.
2. One Player, One Run
  • Only the currently selected player may participate in the active run.
  • Players waiting in the queue must not interfere with the active player.
  • Do not attempt to enter, manipulate or interfere with an active run unless the server explicitly allows it.
  • Do not use alternate accounts to bypass queue restrictions, bans, cooldowns or other limitations.
  • Do not intentionally manipulate the queue to gain an unfair advantage.
  • Disconnecting may end your run.
  • If a technical problem interrupts your run, staff may review the situation and decide whether the run should be restored, restarted or voided.
3. No Cheats

OUTRUN is a skill-based challenge. Any software or modification that gives you an unfair gameplay advantage is prohibited.
This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hacked clients
  • X-ray
  • Freecam when used to gain information unavailable to the player
  • Fly hacks
  • Speed hacks
  • Kill aura
  • Aimbot
  • Reach modifications
  • Auto-clickers
  • Combat automation
  • Automated movement
  • Baritone or equivalent autonomous gameplay
  • Bots
  • Macros that automate gameplay
  • Scripts that perform gameplay actions automatically
  • Packet manipulation
  • Exploits designed to bypass server-side restrictions

If you are unsure whether a particular modification is allowed, ask before using it.
Performance, accessibility and cosmetic modifications may be allowed as long as they do not provide an unfair gameplay advantage.

4. Mods and Client Modifications

Allowed modifications generally include mods that:

  • Improve performance
  • Improve graphics
  • Provide purely cosmetic changes
  • Improve accessibility without providing competitive information
  • Change sounds or music
  • Provide ordinary UI improvements

Mods that reveal information normally hidden from the player are not automatically allowed.
For example, a minimap showing unexplored terrain, caves or entities may be prohibited even if the mod itself is not a traditional "cheat."
When in doubt, ask staff before starting your run.
Staff have the final say on whether a particular modification is permitted.

5. Exploits and Bugs

Do not intentionally abuse bugs, glitches or unintended mechanics to gain an advantage.
This includes:

  • Duplication glitches
  • Bypassing world borders
  • Bypassing server restrictions
  • Exploiting chunk-loading bugs
  • Intentionally manipulating server crashes

Reporting a bug is encouraged.
Using a bug to win and then reporting it afterward does not make the run legitimate.
If you discover an exploit that could significantly affect OUTRUN, please report it to staff rather than publishing a method for abusing it.

6. The Overseer

The Overseer is an intentional part of the challenge.

  • The Overseer may track, pursue or otherwise attempt to eliminate the active player.
  • You may evade the Overseer using legitimate gameplay.
  • You may use terrain, structures, dimensions and normal Minecraft mechanics to escape it.
  • You may not use exploits to permanently disable, trap or break the Overseer.
  • Deliberately causing the Overseer to become permanently stuck through an unintended mechanic may result in a run being invalidated.
  • If the Overseer behaves incorrectly because of a server bug, report it.
  • Staff may invalidate a run if the player deliberately exploits broken Overseer behaviour.

The Overseer is supposed to be terrifying.
Running away from it is not cheating.

7. The World
  • The OUTRUN world is a controlled challenge environment.
  • Players may freely explore areas available to them during their run.
  • Do not intentionally attempt to leave the intended playable area.
  • Do not exploit world borders or server boundaries.
  • Do not intentionally destroy infrastructure that exists for the OUTRUN experience.
  • Do not attempt to manipulate the world between runs to give yourself or another player an advantage.
8. Queue Rules

The queue exists to ensure that everyone gets a fair opportunity to play.

  • Join the queue normally using the provided system.
  • Do not use multiple accounts to occupy multiple positions.
  • Do not repeatedly leave and rejoin to manipulate your position.
  • Do not impersonate another player.
  • Queue priority from an official rank applies only according to the currently advertised system.
  • Queue priority does not guarantee immediate access.
  • Staff may remove players who abuse the queue.
  • AFK players may be removed if they prevent the queue from progressing.
  • If the server detects suspicious queue manipulation, staff may investigate and correct the queue.
9. Disconnects and Technical Problems

Internet connections are not perfect.
If you disconnect:

  • Your run may continue or end depending on the server's current reconnect system.
  • Do not intentionally disconnect to avoid death.
  • Do not disconnect to reset an unfavorable situation.
  • Do not intentionally crash your client or manipulate your connection.
  • If the server itself crashes or experiences a serious technical failure, staff may restore or invalidate the run.

A legitimate accidental disconnect is not treated the same way as deliberately disconnecting to escape the Overseer.

10. Server Crashes and Rollbacks

If the server crashes, loses data or rolls back:

  • The affected run may be restored.
  • The affected run may be restarted.
  • The run may be marked invalid.
  • The leaderboard result may be removed.

The appropriate decision depends on what happened and whether the original run can be reliably reconstructed.
Staff will prioritize fairness and accurate leaderboard records over preserving an individual result.

11. Leaderboard Rules

The leaderboard represents legitimate OUTRUN achievements.
A leaderboard entry may be removed if:

  • Cheats were used.
  • Exploits were abused.
  • The run was affected by a serious bug.
  • The player intentionally manipulated the server.
  • The result cannot be verified.
  • The run violated these rules.

If evidence appears after a run has already been recorded, the result may still be removed.
Previous leaderboard placement does not grant permanent immunity from review.

12. Record Runs

Record attempts are subject to the same rules as ordinary runs.
Do not:

  • Use prohibited mods.
  • Use external tools to gain information.
  • Manipulate the server.
  • Abuse bugs.
  • Coordinate with another player to create an unintended advantage.
  • Intentionally exploit technical problems.

If a world or server issue affects a record attempt, the result may be reviewed before being accepted.

13. Multiple Accounts

Multiple accounts may not be used to circumvent:

  • Bans
  • Queue restrictions
  • Cooldowns
  • Rank restrictions
  • Player limits
  • Other server systems

Using an alternate account for legitimate reasons does not automatically constitute cheating, but attempting to disguise who you are or bypass restrictions does.

14. Cooperation and Outside Assistance

OUTRUN is intended to test the active player's ability to survive.
Do not receive outside assistance that provides gameplay information or actions unavailable to the player.
For example, prohibited assistance includes:

  • Another person remotely controlling your game
  • Someone watching the world and giving you hidden information
  • Someone providing live coordinates of structures or entities through an external method
  • Another account manipulating the game specifically to help your run

Normal communication with viewers is allowed unless it becomes an unfair source of information.

15. Stream Sniping

Do not use the livestream or another player's broadcast to obtain information that you would not otherwise have.
This includes using a stream to:

  • Track the Overseer
  • Locate the player
  • Reveal hidden information
  • Coordinate another account
  • Manipulate the game
  • Gain knowledge of the world

Watching OUTRUN is encouraged.
Using the broadcast to cheat is not.

16. Chat Rules

OUTRUN chat should remain enjoyable for everyone.
Do not:

  • Spam
  • Harass players
  • Threaten people
  • Discriminate against people
  • Post personal information
  • Impersonate staff
  • Advertise unrelated services repeatedly
  • Encourage cheating
  • Reveal private information about players
  • Deliberately spoil another player's experience

Backseating may be restricted depending on the current stream rules.
If the active player does not want hints, respect that.

17. Harassment and Personal Information

OUTRUN is a game.
Do not target players outside the game because of something that happened during a run.
Never publish or request another person's:

  • Real name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Private social accounts
  • Passwords
  • Private conversations
  • Other personal information

Doxxing, threats and targeted harassment result in immediate moderation.

18. Staff and Moderation

Staff are responsible for maintaining the integrity of OUTRUN.
Staff may:

  • Remove players
  • Cancel runs
  • Invalidate leaderboard entries
  • Temporarily suspend players
  • Permanently ban players
  • Correct queue positions
  • Restore or invalidate runs
  • Investigate suspicious activity

Staff decisions should be based on evidence and the overall integrity of the game.
Do not argue with moderators during an active incident.
If you believe a moderation decision was incorrect, use the appropriate appeal process.

19. Rank Rules

Paid ranks support the development and operation of OUTRUN.
Ranks do not grant permission to cheat.
A rank may provide advertised benefits such as:

  • Queue priority
  • Cosmetic effects
  • Quality-of-life features
  • Special visual features

Rank holders are still subject to exactly the same gameplay rules as everyone else.
Paying for a rank does not guarantee:

  • A win
  • A leaderboard position
  • Protection from the Overseer
  • Immunity from punishment
  • Special treatment for rule violations

OUTRUN remains skill-based.

20. Donations and Support

Supporters help fund the infrastructure and development of OUTRUN.
Purchasing a rank or donating does not purchase gameplay results.
Do not attempt to charge back legitimate purchases simply because a run went badly.
Fraudulent payments, stolen payment methods and payment abuse are prohibited.

21. Advertising and Promotion

Do not use OUTRUN to spam advertisements or promote unrelated services.
Creators are welcome to make content about OUTRUN provided that they do not misrepresent the project or intentionally harm the experience.
Fan videos, clips, streams and speedrun attempts are encouraged.

22. Content Creation

You are allowed and encouraged to:

  • Stream your runs
  • Record your runs
  • Make YouTube videos
  • Create clips
  • Make memes
  • Create fan art
  • Discuss strategies
  • Analyze runs
  • Make OUTRUN-related content

Do not use private staff information, exploits or confidential information in a way that compromises the server.

23. AFK and Abandonment

Do not intentionally remain AFK during an active run if doing so prevents the system from progressing.
If you need to leave, type /lobby in chat.
A player who deliberately abandons a run may have the run ended so another player can play.

24. Server Manipulation

Do not intentionally attempt to damage or disrupt OUTRUN.
This includes:

  • DDoS attacks
  • Crash attempts
  • Packet flooding
  • Deliberately causing extreme lag
  • Exploiting server software
  • Attacking infrastructure
  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access
  • Destroying or modifying server files
  • Attempting to bypass authentication

Security vulnerabilities should be reported privately to the OUTRUN team.

25. Bugs and Reports

Found something broken?
Tell us.
Useful bug reports should include:

  • What happened
  • What you expected to happen
  • What actually happened
  • How to reproduce it
  • Your Minecraft version
  • Relevant screenshots or recordings

Do not intentionally abuse a serious exploit while waiting for a fix.

26. Unclear Situations

Not every possible situation can be written into a rulebook.
If something isn't explicitly mentioned here, ask:
Does this give me an advantage that the OUTRUN developers did not intend me to have?
If the answer is probably yes, don't do it.
When necessary, staff may make a ruling on situations not explicitly covered by these rules.
Rules may also be updated as OUTRUN develops.

27. Fair Play Principle

The most important OUTRUN rule is simple:

  • Don't cheat the challenge.
  • If your achievement depends on something the game was never intended to allow, it probably doesn't belong on the leaderboard.
  • Use your knowledge.
  • Use your skill.
  • Use the mechanics.
  • Outrun the Overseer.
28. Rule Changes

OUTRUN is an evolving project.
Rules may change when:

  • New mechanics are introduced
  • New exploits are discovered
  • The server changes
  • New game modes are added
  • The ranking system changes
  • Community problems emerge

Major changes will be communicated through the official OUTRUN channels.
Continuing to use the server after a rule update constitutes acceptance of the current rules.

29. The Golden Rule
  • Play fair.
  • Don't ruin another player's run.
  • Don't exploit the server.
  • Don't cheat.

And most importantly...

  • OUTRUN THE OVERSEER.
